As per the news source the large number of posts are vacant for IAS Officer. The Center is facing a huge shortage of All India Service Officers. This is due to the reluctance of many to come on deputation to the Center and the shortage of officers and states unwilling to send them. The DoPT has informed a parliamentary panel that only 442 IAS officers are working while the Center requires 1,469 officers. These details were mentioned in the DoPT grant demand report tabled in the Rajya Sabha last week. A parliamentary panel headed by BJP’s Sushil Kumar Modi has said that there is a shortage of 1,472 officers across the country and the Center is recruiting 180 IAS officers every year through civil services examination. The total number of IAS officers as on 1 January 2022 was 5317.
केंद्राला अखिल भारतीय सेवा अधिकाऱ्यांची मोठी कमतरता भासत आहे. बरेच जण केंद्रात प्रतिनियुक्तीवर येण्यास अनिच्छुक असल्यामुळे व अधिकाऱ्यांची कमतरता असून राज्ये त्यांना पाठवण्यास तयार नसल्याने ही स्थिती आली आहे. डीओपीटीने संसदीय पॅनलला कळवले आहे की, केंद्राला १४६९ अधिकाऱ्यांची गरज असताना केवळ ४४२ आयएएस अधिकारी काम करीत आहेत. गेल्या आठवड्यात राज्यसभेत मांडलेल्या डीओपीटी अनुदानाच्या मागणीच्या अहवालात या तपशिलांचा उल्लेख आहे. भाजपचे सुशील कुमार मोदी यांच्या नेतृत्वाखालील संसदीय पॅनलने म्हटले आहे की, देशभरात १४७२ अधिकाऱ्यांची कमतरता आहे आणि केंद्र दरवर्षी १८० आयएएस अधिकाऱ्यांची नागरी सेवा परीक्षेद्वारे भरती करीत आहे. १ जानेवारी २०२२ पर्यंत एकूण आयएएस अधिकाऱ्यांची संख्या ५३१७ होती.

सीबीआयमध्ये २३ टक्के पदे रिक्त
- अनिवार्य प्रक्रिया असतानाही तब्बल ११५ आयएएस अधिकाऱ्यांनी अचल संपत्तीची माहिती दिलेली नाही.
- सीबीआयमध्ये २३ टक्के पदे रिक्त आहेत आणि १ जानेवारी २०२२ पासून केवळ १७५ अधिकाऱ्यांची नियुक्ती करण्यात आली, असेही अहवालात म्हटले आहे.
- केंद्रीय सशस्त्र पोलिस दल (सीएपीएफ) आणि राज्य पोलिसांकडून सीबीआयला पुरेशा प्रमाणात नामनिर्देशन प्राप्त होत नाही.
- विशेष म्हणजे या दोन्हींकडूनच मोठ्या प्रमाणावर अधिकाऱ्यांची नियुक्तीसाठी शिफारस केली जाते.
- असे असतानाही पुरेशा प्रमाणात नामनिर्देशन प्राप्त होत नाही.

The main role or duty of an IAS officer is to serve the central and state governments in implementing and administering the policies formulated by the central and state governments and providing valuable feedback to any government decision-making process.
How to become an IAS officer in India
To become an IAS officer, you need to clear the civil services exam conducted by UPSC every year. This exam is conducted to recruit civil servants for about 25 services including IAS, IPS, IFS, Central Government Services as well as other related services. UPSC releases notification inviting applications around January-February every year and the first stage or preliminary exam is usually held in late May or early June.
UPSC conducts the Civil Services Examination in three phases namely:
- Preliminary Examination
- Civil Services (Main) Examination
- Personality Test or Interview
